Reason for the Celebration:

In 1885 Charlie Nagreen, a young lad of 15, came to the Seymour Fair with the intention of selling meatballs.  He soon discovered that people wanted to walk around the fairgrounds while they were eating.  To meet their demand he flattened the meatballs out and placed the patty of beef between two slices of bread and called the sandwich a “hamburger.”  Charlie returned to the fair every year for 66 years until his death in 1951.  Seymour is now recognized as the “Home of the Hamburger.”

Cost:  Admission to the fest grounds on Saturday is $3.00 in advance and $6.00 the day of the event.  Advance tickets may be purchased from Seymour businesses prior to Saturday.
